Welcome to Lakeland State School, our special place in southern Cape York, Australia.
Lakeland State School is a small and vibrant school which creates excellence in education from Prep to Year 6. We also offer Kindergarten 5 days per fortnight and Playgroup for the younger children once a week.
This excellence stems from our small class sizes, explicit teaching model, dedicated teachers and unmatched level of student attention. Teaching staff use individual learning plans and the Australian Curriculum to ensure students are achieving their full potential and in most cases at or above regional and national bench marks.
Our curriculum foci are English, mathematics and science complemented by the other Key Learning Areas, Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE), the arts, health and physical education, technology and Languages other than English (French). We place a strong emphasis on foundational learning areas of reading, writing, spelling and mathematics. As we believe students need to be highly competent in these areas in order to access all areas of the curriculum and be successful lifelong learners.
Education at Lakeland State School provides a strong commitment to educating and caring about the whole child, ensuring that their educational experience is fulfilling through developing personal character values. Our school offers much more that a formal learning program. It personifies strong working relationships with students, parents and community, so we can all work together to ensure our students are confident, happy and high achievers.
We believe that schooling should be enjoyable and that every student matters every day.
